My name is Samuel. Most people call me Sam. In professional circles, I use “S.D.” to add a splash of pretense to an otherwise ordinary fellow riding the big blue marble around the sun, one revolution at a time, like pretty much everyone else.

Since 2006, my day job has been serving on the faculty of Wartburg Theological Seminary, Dubuque, Iowa. During my first sixteen years teaching I focused on stewarding the formation of preachers. In 2022, my teaching responsibilities shifted to teaching biblical interpretation full-time – a transition that has been invigorating.

I have had the pleasure of studying at St. Mary’s College, University of St. Andrews (Ph.D., 2007), Wartburg Theological Seminary, Dubuque, Iowa (M.Div., 1997), and Concordia College, Moorhead, Minnesota (B.A., 1993).

I am a photographer who’s most interested with captures that expand my vision and imagination

Finally and firstly, I am a husband and father.
